New York, NY – Just in time for the holidays, BBC Home Entertainment invites you to give the gift of laughter in the form of Keeping up Appearances: The Collector’s Edition, which arrives on DVD on November 5, 2013. Created by Roy Clarke (Last of the Summer Wine) and starring award-winner Patricia Routledge (Hetty Wainthropp Investigates) as world-class snob Hyacinth Bucket (pronounced BOUQUET, she’ll have you know), this ultimate anthology of the perennial hit sitcom includes every episode, newly remastered and gathered together in a limited edition “Gardeners Vest’ package with collectible seeds and plant tags. With over 200 minutes of bonus content, including the brand new featurette Hyacinth Revealed with newly-recorded interview footage of Routledge, Clarke, and many others, this truly is the definitive collection for anyone looking to climb the social ladder to hilarious new heights.
Played with aplomb by Routledge, Hyacinth is a character with few, if any, saving graces. Her pompous, self-serving attitude makes life miserable for all around her while she goes to incredible lengths in her quest for perfection. She keeps a spick-and-span house. Richard, her downtrodden husband, acts as a chauffeur in their immaculately kept car. Their permanently absent son has a superior name, Sheridan. Even the empty milk bottles sparkle on the doorstep after their obligatory rinse in the dishwasher. In marked contrast to Hyacinth’s meticulously ordered life, however, the rest of her family are as common as muck. They live together in a rundown house that resembles a junkyard. Sister Daisy and her husband, Onslow, are out-and-out slobs. Her other sister, Rose, is an aging tart. Rounding out the sisters is the largely unseen (until the final series) Violet – whom Hyacinth would remind you is “the one with the Mercedes, sauna, and room for a pony!” Her family members aren’t the only ones in the line of fire though, her nervous neighbor Elizabeth and Elizabeth’s brother Emmett also regularly cross Hyacinth’s path. Unfortunately, pandemonium breaks out no matter how meticulously Hyacinth plans her social events. Whatever Hyacinth does, her family can always be guaranteed to show her up.
