Expectation’s In My Skin Gets Hulu Debut

New York, NY – US streaming service, Hulu has acquired the BBC’s hit dark comedy, In My Skin, it was announced today. The five-part series will premiere Thursday, June 4, 2020.

Produced by Expectation (producers of Sky’s hit series Intelligence with David Schwimmer) and distributed by BBC Studios, In My Skin is the award-winning, five-part series, written by Kayleigh Llewellyn, who has mined her own experiences to create this coming of age story about a teenage girl leading a double life.

The pilot transmitted in 2018 on BBC Three with the series recently launched in the UK to critical and popular acclaim.

In My Skin follows Bethan (Gabrielle Creevy) as she desperately tries to keep the truth of her home life a secret from her friends. But when your mother (Jo Hartley) is sectioned in a mental facility near your school and has a penchant for breaking out, and your father is a Hell’s Angel who drives a rag and bone truck — flying under the radar isn’t so easy. Nevertheless, Bethan is determined to save her own blushes. But her cheek and wit can only carry her so far as she digs herself deeper and deeper into a hole of her own lies.

Writer, Kayleigh Llewellyn, said: “We were blown away by the response to the pilot episode, which won two BAFTA Cymru Awards. And now to have such a brilliant reception for the series is enough to make this gal weep. I’m eternally grateful to the people both on and off the camera who have poured so much love and care into this show. It’s a story close to my heart and to be able to share it on a global platform is truly thrilling. I just hope that Americans will know what a ‘fat bap’ is….”

Nerys Evans, Creative Director for Comedy at Expectation, said: “I’m so excited that In My Skin will be launching on Hulu in the US and that viewers there will be able to relive their adolescence through Bethan – and through Kayleigh’s fantastic writing skills. I’m looking forward to a US audience engaging with our characters and experiencing this funny, raw and at times heart-breaking comedy.”

In My Skin is an Expectation production written and created by Kayleigh Llewellyn.
