New York, NY – There has been a recurring war for the survival of the fittest – and it’s not in your history textbook. These individuals are desperate to protect the pride of their ancestors and to keep their lineage alive – even if it means betraying their own or risking their lives. Today, BBC Studios, home entertainment division presents natural history’s biggest drama, Dynasties, now available on 4K Blu-ray/Ultra HD and DVD.
Dynasties takes you deeper into the lives of five of the world’s most celebrated and endangered animals than ever before: Chimpanzee, Emperor Penguin, Lion, Painted Wolf and Tiger. Travel from the plains of Africa to the jungles of India, from the edge of the Sahara to the frozen wastes of Antarctica. Watch leaders battling rivals for their crown, feuds tearing families apart, and parents risking their lives to protect offspring from the coldest and cruelest winter on Earth.
BBC Studios’ Natural History Unit took a new approach on Dynasties by focusing on one specific family of each endangered species. The team behind Planet Earth II and Blue Planet II spent over four years capturing the most authentic moments even experts have not witnessed. “We never really focused on seeing this moment in time where the animals are at a fork in the road, where their lives will change fundamentally depending on which direction they take,” said Emmy ®-winning Executive Producer Mike Gunton.
The series also tackles nature’s lack of space, which can jeopardize these animals’ survival. With Sir David Attenborough’s powerful storytelling, viewers will witness how human civilization affects the very animals with whom they empathize.
Special features include a never-before-seen Making Of documentary, featuring interviews with the production crew and a behind-the-scene look into each episode. The 4K Blu-ray/Ultra HD combo edition also features High Dynamic Range video capabilities, making the experience more vibrant and authentic than going to a local zoo.
In the U.S., Dynasties premiered on Saturday, January 19, 2019, as an AMC Networks simulcast event across BBC AMERICA, AMC, IFC, and SundanceTV. In Canada, Dynasties premiered on Saturday, November 17, 2018, as a Blue Ant Media simulcast across BBC Earth, Cottage Life, T+E, Love Nature, and HIFI. Dynasties is a BBC Studios’ Natural History Unit production, co-produced with BBC AMERICA and France Télévisions.
