Discovery Networks Latin America / US Hispanic and BBC Worldwide Sign Strategic Multi-Year Content Agreement

This partnership allows Discovery’s portfolio of networks to offer a wide variety of BBC Worldwide’s properties across multiple genres

Miami, FL – Discovery Networks Latin America/US Hispanic (DLA/USH), a division of Discovery Communications, and BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm and main subsidiary of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), announced today a first look deal for the factual, lifestyle, natural history and motor programming categories, through which Discovery’s networks will become the home to many of the BBC’s most popular titles.

As a result of this agreement, Discovery’s portfolio will be the hub of the BBC Worldwide’s most iconic franchises, such as the famed natural history documentary series, Planet Earth II and Blue Planet II; the hit automotive franchise Top Gear, including its new English version featuring Matt LeBlanc of Friends, as well as the newly produced US version; the popular baking competition The Great British Bake Off and the internationally famous fashion show What Not to Wear.

“Discovery has had a longstanding partnership with the BBC Worldwide and we are very excited to be the home of these world-famous franchises,” said Carolina Lightcap, EVP and Chief Content Officer for DLA/USH. “This extensive collection of programs will provide our viewers with some of the most engaging and entertaining content available anywhere, beginning with the iconic Planet Earth II, premiering in June. This agreement further solidifies Discovery’s commitment in offering high-quality programming throughout our networks in Latin America.”

“We are hugely proud of our world-leading programming which surprises, engages and inspires audiences the world over. I cannot imagine a better home than Discovery Networks in Latin America for our biggest franchises like Planet Earth II, Blue Planet II, Top Gear and our lifestyle hits, which will enable these shows to reach and enthrall a mass audience across the region,” said Anna Gordon, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, BBC Worldwide Latin America/US Hispanic.

“Discovery and BBC Worldwide are natural partners and we are very proud of our new strategic multi-year partnership. BBC Worldwide continues to be one of the world’s most important distributors of innovative, quality content and formats and this agreement will help ensure that Latin American audiences can experience the very best of the BBC.”
