New York Opening Wednesday, November 27 at Film Forum

Los Angeles Opening Friday, December 6 at Landmark Nuart

New York, NY – BritBox, the joint-venture streaming service from BBC & ITV, announces the U.S. theatrical release of the feature documentary 63 UP, directed by the legendary documentarian Michael Apted. Following the film’s world premiere at Telluride Film Festival, the film will open in New York on November 27 at the Film Forum and on December 6 at the Landmark’s Nuart Theatre in Los Angeles. The film will be opening in additional markets in December including Washington D.C., Boston, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and more.

“I’m excited to be working with BritBox for the U.S. theatrical release of my latest film, 63 UP, the 9th film in the longitudinal series. This film truly represents a life’s work – 56 years in the making, and I feel that Telluride is the ideal setting to launch it ahead of our release this fall,” states Director, Michael Apted.

Led by Emmy nominated, DGA and BAFTA® award-winning director Michael Apted (The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Coalminer’s Daughter, Gorky Park, The World is Not Enough,  Amazing Grace), this unique documentary anthology has now reached 63 Up.   Every seventh-year, it offers further insight into the premise of whether or not our adult lives are pre-determined by earliest influences and by the social class in which we are raised. An issue as relevant to our society now as when the series first appeared.

“Michael Apted has made history with his unprecedented UP film anthology.  To further our tradition of showcasing the best of British content, BritBox is honored to bring the feature 63 Up to theatrical audiences nationwide and know it will be an incredible viewing experience,” states BritBox President, Soumya Sriraman.

The original 7 Up was broadcast as a one-off World in Action Special inspired by the founding editor Tim Hewat’s passionate interest in the Jesuit saying, “Give me the child until he is seven, and I will give you the man,” and his anger at what he saw as the rigidity of social class in England. 7 Up featured the children talking about their hopes and dreams for the future. As members of the generation who would be running the country by the year 2000, what did they think they would become?

The result was ground-breaking and the follow-up films every seven years have won an array of awards.

Over six decades, the films have documented the group as they became adults and entered middle-age, dealing with everything life has thrown at them in between. Now, as the group reaches retirement age, the film is back to discover what they are doing.

63 UP (2019, 138 mins)

Directed by Michael Apted. Produced by Claire Lewis. Executive Producers: Cort Kristensen, Ceri Aston, Sally Evans and Soumya Sriraman for BritBox. Cinematographer: George Jesse Turner. Editor: Kim Horton. Sound: Nick Steer. Release by BritBox LLC
