Los Angeles, CA — BritBox, the hit streaming service from BBC Studios and ITV, will significantly expand its programming roster with several new originals, live events and the addition of some of the most beloved UK programs ever, it was announced today by BritBox President, Soumya Sriraman. The new programming, unveiled to attendees at the semi-annual gathering of the Television Critics Association (TCA) in Los Angeles, further fortify BritBox’s deep collection of acclaimed UK programming, already the largest streaming service of its kind in North America.

In her remarks, Sriraman unveiled the fall premiere of BritBox’s next original crime drama The Bay(description below), starring Morven Christie (Granchester) and Jonas Armstrong (Ripper Street) before presenting panel discussions on: BritBox original The Victim, a searing 4-part drama starring Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire)about a mother’s quest for justice following her son’s murder; Father Brown, starring Mark Williams (Harry Potter), about a crime-solving Catholic priest in a quaint English village in the 1950’s; and the third and final season of Mum, a BritBox co-production, starring Oscar nominee, Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread) and PeterMullan (Ozark), about a 60-something widow finding her center of gravity again.

BritBox will continue to spotlight its NOW feature, where viewers find live and near live programming, with more top-tier specials such as wall-to-wall coverage of The Edinburgh Fringe Festival for three weeks beginning  August 6th,  The Britannia Awards 2019 on October 25th and The Royal Variety Performance 2019and Carols From Kings later this year.

Season 7 of Father Brown joins BritBox on August 1 before rolling out all six prior seasons of the beloved series in the ensuing months. Since it first aired in 2013, Father Brown has become UK’s most popular show in daytime, and has been seen in 150 countries. Additionally, BritBox will add the long-running mystery, Death in Paradise, the latest series of which averaged 8.34 million viewers in the UK and each episode topped the day’s rating charts. Each series will now make BritBox its exclusive streaming home and join the service’s recent additions of Shetland.

The Bay – A compelling crime drama, acclaimed as the next Broadchurch, about the intertwined lives of families in a small coastal town. When Family Liaison Officer, Lisa Armstrong (Morven Christie,Granchester) is assigned to a missing person’s case, it seems like any other…but there’s something very different about this one and Lisa soon uncovers a personal connection with the victim’s frightened family that could compromise both the investigation and her well-being. Premieres: TBA

Mum – Starring Oscar nominee Lesley Manville (Phantom Thread) and Peter Mullan (Ozark, Westworld), Mum is a family comedy seen through the eyes of Cathy, a widow in her early 60s finding her center of gravity again. In this third and final season, Cathy and family escape to the English countryside to celebrate her brother Derek’s birthday. Yet somehow in the craziness of dealing with her eccentric family and house guests she also must find the clarity needed to sort out her own love life and her feelings for Michael (Peter Mullan) who wants to be more than friends. Each installment of this final season captures one day of the week leading up to Derek’s party. Premieres: July 25, 2019

The Victim – This four-part miniseries stars Kelly Macdonald (Boardwalk Empire, Brave), John Hannah (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Mummy) and James Harkness (Macbeth, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story). Macdonald portrays bereaved mother Anna Dean, who believes her young son was murdered by Craig Meyers (Harkness), an older boy, 14 years earlier. Now a family man, Meyers is pulled back into the spotlight when out of vengeance Dean posts his new identity and location online, leading to him being savagely beaten. Now on trial for his attempted murder, Dean, and Meyers’ lives intersect once again as Dean is relentless in her pursuit to unmask the identity of her son’s killer and Meyers is determined to salvage his reputation – leading to the question of who is the real victim? Premiere: September 2019

The Edinburgh Fringe Festival – For all of August the Edinburgh Festival Fringe opens the doors, streets and alleyways of an entire city to an explosion of creative energy from around the globe.  For three weeks BritBox will follow one of the world’s largest arts festival with coverage in the BBC’s famous Blue Tent. Premieres: August 6, 2019

The Royal Variety Performance – Held annually in the United Kingdom to raise money for the Royal Variety Charity, this event, attended by senior members of the British Royal Family and presented as a live variety show consisting of family entertainment that includes comedy, music, dance, magic and other specialty acts. Premieres: TBA
