BBC Worldwide Rocks Out with Latin America to Three Music Programming Deals

New York, NY BBC Worldwide Sales & Distribution today announced three key music programming deals in the Latin American market including the sale of The Brit Awards (1 x 90’) to Turner International, Inc, U2: From the Sky Down (1 x 82’) to Globosat, and Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2011 (2 x 60’)to A&E Latin America.  The deals were brokered by Helen Jurado Vice-President, Television Sales & Distribution and Janel Downing, Sales Manager, BBC Worldwide Americas.

Helen Jurado said, “BBC Worldwide has established itself as the market leader in music programming and these deals are further evidence of the enormous appetite for great music television in Latin America.  We’re excited about continuing our relationship with Turner, Globosat and A&E Latin America.”

The Turner deal is the largest with over 44 hours of factual, fiction, and music programming including The Brit Awards.  Hosted by James Corden, it’s a glittering, champagne-fuelled, star-studded evening featuring live performances and unique collaborations from some of the biggest artists in the business.  The deal also includes Blur –No Distance Left to Run(1 x 97’) – a candid and moving documentary featuring an all access pass to Blur’s eagerly anticipated and highly acclaimed summer reunion tour in 2009; Take That: Look Back Don’t Stare (1 x 67’)– a look at one of the most anticipated reunions in British music history between Robbie Williams and Take That and the 12 months they spent recording their new album; and Radiohead – The King of Limbs – Live in the Basement (1 x 55’). This program captures the band as they perform “The King of Limbs” exclusively, in full, for the first and only time for music show From the Basement.

Globosat acquired five high-profile music programs including U2: From the Sky Down, which shares unseen footage, interviews and stories from the band’s Berlin and Dublin concerts, proving why U2 continues winning the test of time. The deal also includes Alice Cooper – Night of Fear (1 x 100’) – join the famed rocker for a freaky evening show filled with thrills, blood spills, guts and gore; Judas Priest – Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Arena (1 x 90’) – celebrate 30 years of the band’s groundbreaking album, British Steel, with the first-ever performance of the album in its entirety; Il Divo: Live in London (1 x 55’) – a unique operatic experience performed in the beautiful London Coliseum, home of the English National Opera; and Hugh Laurie – Let Them Talk (1 x 50′) – experience the well-known actor and talented blues musician perform tracks from his debut album, Let Them Talk, at an intimate venue in the French Quarter of New Orleans with blues legends Allen Toussaint, Irma Thomas and Tom Jones.

A&E Latin America obtained Radio 1’s Big Weekend 2011, which highlights the largest free ticketed music event in Europe. Held at a different UK location each year, it attracts thousands of spectators eager to enjoy the performances of world renowned artists on a variety of stages.  Highlights from this year include Lady Gaga, Arctic Monkeys, Foo Fighters and The Black Eyed Peas.
