BBC Worldwide North America and Netflix Partner for First-Ever Digital Streaming of Planet Earth: The Complete Series in the U.S. on Earth Day

Starting today, the stunning documentary series, narrated by Sir David Attenborough, will be available to stream for the first time in the U.S.

Los Gatos, CA – Just in time for the 45th anniversary of Earth Day, the original UK broadcast version of the landmark BBC production Planet Earth: The Complete Series will be available as of today for Netflix members in the U.S. This marks the first time the project will be available via digital streaming subscription service in the region. Planet Earth: The Complete Series has won four Primetime Emmy® Awards and is narrated by Sir David Attenborough. The series is distributed by BBC Worldwide North America.

Five years in the making, the landmark Planet Earth series was filmed by 71 camera operators across 62 countries, leaving no continent unexplored. Utilizing cutting-edge filming techniques and technologies — ranging from revolutionary aerial lens stabilization and flash strobe-systems to ultra-high-speed cameras – the series expertly captures the planet’s best-loved, wildest, and most elusive creatures in intimate moments and rare action. Additionally, Planet Earth features high definition footage taken from outer space to offer a fascinating perspective on natural wonders such as the Himalayas and the Amazon River. Complementing the series is a sweeping score by 5-time Academy Award® nominated composer George Fenton (The Fisher King, Dangerous Liaisons).

A number of other major BBC wildlife documentaries, including Blue Planet, Bears: Spy in the Woods and Life, will also be available in the U.S. beginning today. These titles join a growing roster of BBC shows already available on the service, including Doctor Who, Luther, Top Gear, Wallander and Death in Paradise, further solidifying Netflix as a great home for British content for members to watch whenever and however they want.

BBC/Discovery Channel/NHK co-production, in association with the CBC.
