BBC Worldwide Brings its First Multiplatform Scripted Format The Last Hours of Laura K to Brazil

The local version of the show – Prova do Crime – will air in December as a segment of Rede Globo’s Fantástico, one of the country’s most popular weekly television news magazine show

Cannes, France – BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm and main subsidiary of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), announced today the signing of the first licensing agreement for its scripted multiplatform format  The Last Hours of Laura K.  The Brazilian adaptation of the ground-breaking show – Prova do Crime – will air on Rede Globo starting in December.  The series will air in three 10-minute segments on Globo’s Fantástico, one of the longest running and most watched shows in Brazil, which features news reports on world events, interviews with international celebrities, and funny clips and out-takes from television around the world.

The Last Hours of Laura K underscores our willingness to produce some of the world’s most pioneering and exciting content in ways that fuse the digital and linear realms and immerse the audience in a totally different television experience,” said Anna Gordon, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, BBC Worldwide Latin America/US Hispanic. “Our deal with Globo illustrates our ongoing commitment to the Brazilian market and our desire to bring BBC’s most innovative properties to Latin America.”

The Last Hours of Laura K began as an immersive online murder mystery and ground-breaking digital experience that placed the audience at the heart of the story. The UK version of the format used 24 hours of footage from the fictional surveillance programme SaturnEye, to produce a disconcertingly intimate, unfiltered, and impartial look at the day leading up to the protagonist’s death.  The 24-hour video file was only half of the story; to find the killer, users had to immerse themselves in the characters’ digital lives via their Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram profiles, looking for clues and motives seeded by writers over months to help them identify the killer.

The deal with Globo is BBC Worldwide’s first license of the critically-acclaimed scripted multi-platform scripted format. The Last Hours of Laura K has won several global awards, including C21’s 2016 International Format Award for the best multi-platform format, and the 2015 Lovie Award. The show was also an Official Honoree at the 2016 Webby Awards and received nominations for Best Game at the 2016 Broadcast Digital Awards, for Digital Creativity at the 2016 BAFTA Television Craft Awards, and for Best Visual Media Experience at the 2016 South by Southwest Festival.

The Last Hours of Laura K is a production of BBC Writersroom, a division of BBC that works and develops new writers.
