BBC and Quora Announce Partnered Column
Sites partner over curious, intelligent and global communities
Los Angeles, CA – BBC.com today marked the expansion of their partnership with online question-and-answer product, Quora. The sites blend relevant and compelling insights from Quora’s global community of writers with BBC’s first-class storytelling into regular columns across the BBC.com feature pages.
“BBC.com users are worldly and curious – a terrific match with Quora’s varied community of experts. The relationship was meant to be,” said David G Allan, Managing Editor of BBC.com Feature sections. “We both share a startup mentality that allows us to think outside the box when it comes to creating content.”
This summer, BBC Travel launched a trial version of the Quora column, tackling topical and interesting travel questions posted by Editor Allison Busacca, BBC Travel readers and the Quora community. So far, BBC Travel has sought out the secrets airline pilots won’t tell you, the meals worth crossing the world for and learned the best countries to see by train.
“The BBC’s world-class reputation and forward leaning approach to online media aligns well with Quora’s mission to share and grow the world’s knowledge. BBC.com’s Quora Column is one of the most thoughtful and aggressive publishing strategies we’ve encountered with respect to Quora’s library,” said Marc Bodnick, who leads Quora’s business and community teams. “Together we are establishing new ways to think about distribution and publishing in today’s evolving media environment. Our writers have been thrilled with the reach and brand of an elite publication like the BBC, and we at Quora feel the same.”
The branded column also on launches today on BBC Autos, exploring the most common fears of driverless cars and BBC Capital, exploring the craziest job interview questions and answers that landed people the job.
Spanning more than 400,000 topics including business, sports, entertainment, life advice and politics, Quora provides a platform for people across the world to publish, read and share amazing first-hand knowledge and practical advice. “We have loved highlighting these thoughtful and thorough answers, and we are excited to expand the insights of Quora’s dynamic community to our other Feature sections,” said Allan.
In conjunction with the expansion of the column, the sites are hosting a breakfast panel during Social Media Week, the annual global digital event that connects people, content and conversations around emerging trends in social and mobile media. The panel features Allan, Quora’s Director of Partnerships Alex Wu, Forbes Film Writer Mark Hughes, founder of LEAF.tv Geri Hirsch and will be moderated by LA Times’ technology writer Andrea Chang.
